Lenovo is marking a significant milestone as it celebrates 20 years in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. The journey started in 2005, when Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC division and established one of its global headquarters amidst the thriving tech landscape of the Triangle. It was an acquisition that would create a home for Lenovo and transform the lives of employees, their families, and the wider community.

Celebrating Local Talent and Innovation

Today, Lenovo operates in 180 markets worldwide, showcasing the power of local innovation on a global stage. Lenovo holds over 10,000 patents in the U.S., with around 40 percent originating from North Carolina. This impressive statistic reflects the cutting-edge R&D that takes place in partnership with local universities, fostering a rich talent pool that contributes to Lenovo's skilled workforce.

Notable technologies such as Lenovo's warm water cooling for servers were developed in the Triangle. In addition, all Lenovo ThinkPad[AP1] [AS2] , server, and workstation system designs are done locally. Lenovo also set up an AI Innovation Center in North Carolina to boost AI adoption and innovation. These innovations not only provide ease and productivity for consumers; they also showcase how local talent drives industry-leading solutions.

A Deep-Rooted Connection to the Community

Lenovo continues to nurture the next generation of innovators by introducing students to technology. The company sponsored a Girls Belong in Tech virtual summer camp to encourage local middle and high school students to consider a career in the technology and engineering fields. Another Lenovo initiative, STEM Field Day, invited Triangle-area elementary school students to local parks to play games and participate in activities that blended STEM concepts with soccer.

This past September, Lenovo and the Carolina Hurricanes announced a new naming rights deal for the team’s arena, now called the Lenovo Center. Lenovo also became the Hurricanes’ official technology partner, reinforcing its long-term commitment to innovation and community engagement.

It is this deep-rooted connection to the local area, extensive philanthropic initiatives, community investments, and commitment to education that play a pivotal role in driving cutting-edge solutions and services.

Looking to the Future for Lenovo 360 Partners

This local innovation benefits not only Lenovo but also Lenovo 360 partners by providing access to advanced technologies that improve product offerings and market competitiveness. With its ongoing commitment to innovation and Smarter AI for All, Lenovo helps your business keep up with changing industry demands.

While Lenovo is proud of its progress and accomplishments over the last twenty years, it is looking forward to an even more impactful decade ahead. Explore the full story behind Lenovo’s platinum anniversary and its commitment to North Carolina by reading the official corporate press release
